Privacy Incident at Colorado Health Network Inc.
Colorado Health Network Inc. (“CHN”), a healthcare organization headquartered in Denver, Colorado, has advised some of its patients and other individuals of a recent privacy incident that may have compromised some of their personal information.
CHN recently concluded an investigation into an incident involving unauthorized access to certain of its systems. Upon discovering the incident, CHN took measures to secure its systems and launched an investigation. A cybersecurity firm was engaged to assist. CHN’s investigation determined that an unauthorized individual viewed and obtained certain files on its network. It thus wrote to notify potentially affected individuals of the incident out of an abundance of caution and in accordance with applicable law.
“We take the protection of personal information very seriously and regret any concern or inconvenience this incident may have caused” said Darrell Vigil, CEO.
As a precautionary measure, CHN is offering all affected individuals complimentary identity monitoring services through Epiq. Eligible individuals will receive an enrollment code and instructions for enrolling in the services with the written notification letter mailed to them. Additionally, CHN recommends that all potentially affected individuals remain vigilant by reviewing their personal account statements and monitoring credit reports. If they find any errors or unauthorized activity, they should contact their financial institutions that may be affected. Individuals also may file a report with law enforcement, their state attorney general, and/or the Federal Trade Commission.
Going forward, CHN is taking steps to continue investigating this incident, help mitigate the potential for harm, and prevent this from happening again. CHN is working with its IT professionals to further enhance the security of its systems. Additionally, CHN notified law enforcement about this incident and will cooperate with any further investigation.
