Health Insurance and Medication Access

To be eligible for these programs you must meet the following criteria:

• Be a person living with HIV.
• Be a resident of Colorado.
• Have an income of under 500% of the Federal Poverty Level.

To be eligible for PHIP you must meet the following criteria:

• You must currently be utilizing, or interested in, PrEP as an HIV prevention strategy
• Be a resident of Colorado
• Have an income of under 500% of the Federal Poverty Level

Private Health Insurance (employer based, retirement plan, or individually purchased)

• Monthly premium assistance
• Medical copayment assistance for in-network services, covered by your health plan, including both HIV and non-HIV related services.
• Medication assistance for medications on the formulary

Medicare (for individuals over 65, or with certain disabilities)

• Monthly Medicare part C or D premium assistance
• Medical copayment assistance for in-network services, covered by your health plan, including both HIV and non-HIV related services.
• Medication assistance for medications on the formulary

Health First Colorado (Colorado’s Medicaid program)

• Monthly Medicaid buy-in premium assistance (if applicable)
• Medical copayment assistance for in-network services, covered by your health plan, including both HIV and non-HIV related services.
• Medication assistance for medications on the formulary

Uninsured or Underinsured

• Medication assistance for medications on the formulary
  • Medications must be received at a participating pharmacy

We may ask for supporting documentation that confirms you are not eligible for insurance. If you are eligible for health insurance, we can assist you in enrolling in it.

Current participating pharmacies for uninsured clients include: Scale’s Pharmacy, University IDGP Pharmacy, and Denver Health’s Public Health Pharmacy

Apply for Manufacturer Assistance:
If you have private insurance or are uninsured, you will need to apply for the Manufacturer assistance program to pay for the PrEP medication

Required Documentation:
When you apply, you must provide documentation proving your income and attest that you are a Colorado resident.

Acceptable Proof of Income Includes:
One-month worth of pay stubs from your current job
Most recent tax returns
Social Security award letters
A letter from your employer

Apply for Medicaid:
If your income is under 138% of the Federal Poverty Level, and you are a U.S. citizen or qualifying immigrant, you may be required to apply for Medicaid.
